Workshop of Economic Analysis of EOR/IOR Techniques
We did enjoy technical discussions and debates with highly skilled and talented engineers of National Iranian South Oil Co. (NIOSC) during the seminar of "Smart Water Injection" held by Nargan members. Waterflooding is considered as an effective secondary recovery method for pressure support to the reservoir to prevent gas production, and for displacing the oil by viscous forces. During the last 30 years, however, it was discovered that the wetting properties of the reservoir (which play a very important role in this process) can be altered towards more water-wetness, which is more optimal for waterflooding projects. The key to improve our understanding towards the efficiency of waterflooding is to obtain fundamental chemical understanding of the Crude/Brine/Rock interaction by controlled laboratory studies, and then propose chemical mechanisms, which should be validated also from field experience.
